SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 21 Saint Leo Lions came up short against the No. 5 Rollins Tars, 16-11 in Saturday's Sunshine State Conference (SSC) matchup. Despite the loss,
Rebecca Halley had an outstanding game in the net with 12 saves. The decision moved the Green and Gold's overall record to 13-2, 2-2 in the SSC.
Before the opening draw control, the women's lacrosse program honored its eight graduating Lions:
Anna Tamayo,
Kaylah Walstad,
Lexie Walstad,
Haley Campbell,
Rebecca Halley,
Sabrina Sanacore,
Neely Regan, and
Leslie Ferguson.
Rollins controlled the game at the draw, winning 21-of-29 draws. The Tars opened the game with a three-goal run leading to a four-goal advantage at the half; 7-3. Saint Leo shifted momentum opening up the second half with two straight goals but was continually answered by Rollins. Down 11-6 with 21 minutes remaining, the Lions generated a three-goal run spearheaded by
Lexie Walstad who netted a pair, to bring the game within two goals; 11-9. Despite the offensive burst, Rollins regained a more comfortable lead on their way to the five-goal victory.
