#23 Lions Score 14 Unanswered Runs in Dominating Victory

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 23rd-ranked Saint Leo baseball team posted its highest run total of the season Friday night as the Lions defeated Tiffin University 14-1 to open up a three-game series. The Dragons of Tiffin scored first but the Lions responded with 14 unanswered runs including a pair of six-run frames to claim the victory.
 
Five Lions had multiple hits in the contest led by senior Peyton Isaacson who had a 4-for-6 day at the plate and came up a home run short of hitting for the cycle. The Galesburg, Ill. Native finished with a double, a triple, two runs scored and three RBI.
 
Classmate Jared Morello tied Isaacson for the team lead in RBI as he drove in three as well while going 2-for-5 at the dish. Morello and Isaacson had back-to-back triples in the six-run third inning. Morello's was a three-RBI bases clearing hit while Isaacson drove in Morello with his three-bagger.
 
Redshirt sophomore Danny Torres was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Freshman Paul Coumoulos picked up his first career round-tripper in the fourth to put the Lions ahead 13-1.
 
On the mound, freshman Ruddy Gomez made his Saint Leo debut and was limited to a pitch count prior to the game. The rookie went 1.2 innings while striking out four and walking three. He allowed the lone run of the contest while not allowing a hit.
 
Sophomore McCabe Sargent went the next 6.1 innings with just two hits allowed and six strikeouts. He did not allow a run and did not give up a walk in the game. Redshirt junior Adnan Sator pitched the final inning while striking out one and walking one. He did not allow a hit in the final frame.
 
The Lions and Dragons will play game two of this series Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The final game of the series will take place Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
