MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Down by three with 17-seconds to play, Saint Leo men's basketball got within one, 74-73, with seven-seconds to go. After forcing a Barry turnover, the Lions' last second shot was blocked to end the regular season with a 74-73 loss.
Saint Leo (13-15, 10-10 SSC) saw
Rusty Moorer drop a new career-high with 28 points after going 12-for-22 from the field including a 3-for-5 mark from downtown. Moorer added a 4-for-6 mark from the free throw line.
Isaiah Hill and
Kyran McClure joined Moorer in double-figures with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Gintaras Bartaskas led the Green and Gold in rebounding with seven while he added six points on the night.
Barry (17-10, 12-8 SSC) saw three players score double-digits led by Daniel Mortensen's 18 points. Isaiah Hobbs and David Moya added 14 points apiece. Tylan Birts led the Bucs with a game-high nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Saint Leo started off the game with a quick five-point lead, 7-2 after Rusty Moorer and Isaiah Hill nailed three-pointers and Yalen Reed a free throw.
- After a quick tie, the Lions regained a lead, 22-17, on a Gintaras Bartaskas three before keeping it at eight on another Bartaskas three, 29-21 with 5:38 to play.
- Barry cut the deficit heading down the stretch of the first half but Kyran McClure sank a free throw to put it back at eight points, 37-29, sending the game to halftime.
- The Bucs outscored the Lions to cut make the game a one-point game with 12:56 to play, 46-45. Over the next four minutes, Barry took a quick lead, 55-53, before the Lions tied things at 58-58 with 7:06 to go.
- A 5-0 run allowed the Green and Gold to take a 63-58 lead and hold a five-point lead with 5:16 to play, 65-60.
- A 65-65 tie with 4:20 to play would see the game be a one possession game both ways. With 1:33 to go, Kyran McClure sank a free throw to tie things back up at 71-71 before Barry's David Moya hit a three-pointer to take a lead with 17-seconds to play.
- McClure sprinted down the court laid it in to get within one with 7-seconds to play. Tough defense caused Daniel Mortensen of the Bucs to lose the ball, giving the Lions life with a few seconds to play.
- McClure's last second jumper was blocked by Mortensen as the Lions fell 74-73.

Saint Leo will travel to Lakeland to take on the third-seeded Florida Southern Moccasins in the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinals. The 3-v-6 quarterfinal will tip at 7:30 p.m.
