SAINT LEO, Fla. – After two-straight days of double-digit scoring the series finale between the Saint Leo baseball team and Tiffin turned out to be a pitcher's duel that featured just three runs scored all coming from the Lions. Redshirt senior
Shane Haight helped kick start the Lions second shutout of the season as he pitched 7.0 strong innings on the mound while striking out six in route to his second victory of the year.
Â
Haight, junior Kalbe Huxford and senior
Peyton Isaacson combined to keep the Dragons off the scoreboard Sunday afternoon. Haight scattered seven hits over his seven innings of work and walked just two. Huxford pitched the eighth for the Lions and stuck out two while walking one and allowing just one hit. Isaacson made his third appearance on the mound in 2019 after catching the first eight innings of the game. He allowed one hit and struck out one as he picked up his first save of the season and 15
th of his career.

The Lions had eight hits in the game coming from seven different bats. The lone multiple hit game came from freshman
Alec Villanueva who made his first career start at second base. He entered the game with no official at bats but went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a hit by pitch. Senior
Brett Coffel, senior
Jared Morello and junior
Amir Wright all drove in runs for the Lions. Morello and senior
Aaron Portee picked up the only extra base hits for Saint Leo as they each tallied a double.
Â
The Lions ended a scoreless game in the bottom of the fifth as Wright reached first on a walk. He then proceeded to steal second and was brought home by an RBI double from Morello who nailed one off the right field fence.
Â
Two innings late, the Lions would sneak two across. Villanueva led off the inning with a single. After being sacrificed over to second he reached third on a wild pitch. Wright then delivered a single up the middle past a drawn in infield to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. Wright would take advantage of a wild pick off attempt from the pitcher and made it all the way around to third on the error. The next two Lions walked which loaded the bases for Coffel. Coffel continued the walk parade picking up an RBI on a four-pitch free pass.
Â
The Dragons had a few opportunities to score throughout the game but Haight came up strong in every situation. Tiffin had a runner on third in both the fifth and sixth innings with one out and Haight delivered the pitches he needed to get out unscathed.
Â
The Lions will put their four-game win streak on the line Tuesday night as Purdue Northwest visits Thomas B. Southard Stadium for a 6 p.m. match-up. Â Â
