SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 7 Saint Leo men's tennis team opened the 2019 season by defeating Gustavus Adolphus 6-1 on Wednesday.
Gustavus Adolphus stole doubles flights no. 1 and no. 2.
Ghali Mensour and
Willem Van Den Akker earned the lone doubles match, 7-6.
No. 40
Bruno Faletto led the Lions singles competition in the one spot, 6-3, 6-2. Mensour won second singles 6-2, 6-1 followed by
Aurel Ciocanu who won his third singles battle; 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.
Noel Kunz took fourth singles 6-1,6-0, while Van Den Akker recorded a fifth singles 7-5, 6-3 win.
David Perez finished the match with a long six singles victory 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Saint Leo hits the road for the first time this season to face Columbus State on Friday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.
