Baseball Notes
  • No. 23 Saint Leo baseball welcomes in Valdosta State for a single game Tuesday night. 
  • The contest marks the first midweek game of the season for the Lions.  
  • Saint Leo and Valdosta State will meet twice this season including Tuesday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium and Tuesday, April 9 in Valdosta, Ga.
  • 10 games into the season senior Jared Morello is pacing the Lions offensively with a .459 batting average that includes three doubles, a triple, a home run and 10 RBI. Senior Peyton Isaacson and junior Jacob Reimold share the team lead in RBI with 11 each while Isaacson leads the team with four home runs.
  • On the pitching side, the Lions have seen five different pitchers start games this season with four of those sitting on 1-0 records. Redshirt junior Ryan Nolan and junior Joey Antonopoulos have seen the most extensive action with 15.2 innings pitched each over three starts.
  • Valdosta State is off to an 8-3 start but are coming off two losses. The Blazers lost the last two games of a three-game set against Lee.
  • Junior Mike Christopoulos leads the Blazer offense with a .370 batting average that includes a double and four RBI. Senior Aaron Haughton leads the team with nine RBI while he and Jon Jon Burkett share the team lead in home runs with one each.
  • The Blazers have seen five different pitchers start games this season with Tristan Cone leading the way with a 2-0 record. He has also seen the most extensive action at 14.0 innings pitched.
  • Valdosta State was picked fifth in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Poll. VSU finished 20-26 last season and was 12-17 in GSC play.

Men's Tennis Notes
  • No. 7 Saint Leo looks to bounce back after a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to No. 3 Lynn last week.
  • Willem Van Den Akker and Aurel Ciocanu won the Flight no. 2 doubles battle. In singles action, Bruno Faletto, Ghali Mensour and David Perez earned wins against the Fighting Knights.
  • On the season, Faletto and Perez hold a 3-1 singles record with Faletto at the number one spot and Perez competing at six singles.
  • Florida Southern is still in search of its first season win. This week the Mocs fell to Auburn Montgomery (4-1), No. 4 West Florida (6-1), and West Alabama (6-1).

Women's Basketball Notes
  • Saint Leo split the week defeating Florida Tech (58-52) followed by an 87-63 loss to Embry-Riddle. On Saturday, Gina Brierley earned a season-high 21 points leading the Saint Leo (10-15, 5-12 SSC) offense.
  • On the season, Casey Wortley leads scoring and rebounding for the Lions with 11.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG.
  • Tampa is traveling to Saint Leo with a four-game win streak. Last week, Tampa earned a 67-50 win over Rollins. Over the weekend, the Spartans enjoyed a bye week.
  • On the season, Staja Tyghter paces the Spartans offense with 14.0 PPG. She also snags 8.7 RPG. Dori Nagy leads Tampa off the window with 9.0 RPG.
  • Last meeting, Saint Leo fell 59-46. The Lions were unable to recover from a 15-point lead tallied by the Spartans in the first half. Saint Leo rallied in the third quarter, putting together a 10-point run after the break. Despite the efforts, the Lions were forced to take the loss. The Saint Leo (7-9, 2-6 SSC) offense was headed by Casey Wortley with 14-points. Wortley went 5-for-10 from the field while sinking 4-of-7 three-point shots. She added four rebounds and an assist to her night.

Men's Basketball Notes
  • Saint Leo hosts Tampa in midweek action after posting a 2-0 week with an 81-79 win at Florida Tech and a 63-58 win over Embry-Riddle. 
  • On the year, Kyran McClure continues to pace the team averaging 17.8 points per game. McClure led the team on the week with 39 total points, 19.5 ppg. In the two games, Isaiah Hill was a close second with 23 total points, 11.5 per game, with 12 total rebounds, five assists and three steals. Yalen Reed notched 20 points and 11 rebounds while picking up two blocks.
  • Behind McClure on the year, Junior Searcy is second in scoring average with 11.3 points per game, just ahead of Hill with 10.8. Reed leads the team in rebounding grabbing 5.5 per game. McClure paces the team in the assist category with 3.2 per game while he is neck-and-neck with Hill for team lead in steals per game with 1.3 and 1.4, respectively. 
  • Tampa comes to Saint Leo on a three-game win streak including an 95-88 win over Rollins on Feb. 13, where Freddy Ibrahim and Anthony Gamble led the way with 38 and 23 points, respectively. Alberto Moreno chipped in with 15 points off the bench for the Spartans. 
  • On the year, three players average double-figures with Gamble leading the way with 17.5 ppg. Vincent Biffle adds 13.3 ppg ahead of Moreno at 11.9 ppg. 
  • Season Matchup: In the first meeting, Saint Leo snuck out of Tampa with an 72-66 victory. Kyran McClure and Anthony Gamble led the charge for both teams, as McClure scored 23 points for the Lions and Gamble 22 for the Spartans.

Women's Tennis Notes
  • The No. 7 Saint Leo women's team fell to No. 5 Lynn, 6-1, on Saturday. Saint Leo's lone singles point came from reigning Sunshine State Conference Player of the week, Nina Furmaniak with a score of 7-6, 7-5 at third singles.
  • Marta Vicens Miquel enters the week 3-1 on the early season in first singles. Second singles, Kristyna Jurkova, holds a 2-2 record while third singles Nina Furmaniak looks to protect a perfect 4-0 slate.
  • Flagler only played an exhibition match this week facing Eastern Florida State.
  • On the season, Felicitas Runkel at first singles, Eden Schlagenhauf at the two spot, Lixin Wang at third singles each hold a 2-2 record.
