SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team wrapped up the Hampton Inn (Wesley Chapel) Classic on Saturday afternoon against the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks. The Lions battled a double-digit gap for the lead in the third and forced overtime but were unable to top the Redhawks, who came away with a 78-75 overtime final.
"While Robert Wesleyan certainly shot the ball extremely well, we clearly didn't do enough to win despite having our chances," said head coach
Anthony Crocitto.
Â
Saint Leo overcame a 16-point deficit to take the lead at 3:14 in the third quarter.
Amanda Ulrich recorded the lead change on the charity stripe moving the Lions ahead 40-39. Saint Leo put together a 21 point third quarter while holding Roberts Wesleyan to six points.

The Lions' third quarter offensive onslaught was matched by the Redhawks in the fourth. Robert's Wesleyan's Taryn Wilson sunk a jumper off a turnover for the lead, 66-65, with three seconds left in the regulation.
Gina Brierley quickly moved the ball to the other end of the court and drew a shooting foul. The senior guard converted the needed free throw to keep the hopes alive for Saint Leo.
Â
Tied at 74-74 entering the last minute of the overtime period, the game was decided on the charity stripe. Roberts Wesleyan sunk 4-of-8 tosses while Saint Leo made 1-of-3 free throws.
Â
Ulrich paced the Lions with 27 points followed by
Casey O'Shaughnessy (11) and
Alani Gallagher (10). Ulrich also led the Green and Gold off the glass with nine rebounds.
"Amanda and Casey are fighting to win games," said Crocitto. "We've had so many character building losses. Much is gained if you continue to get up and fight. After the break, we will continue to get up and fight."
Crocitto concluded, "Thank you to all the people that came out to this weekend's games and supported these women. Merry Christmas and Go Lions!"
