Saint Leo Drops Road Contest at SSC Leader Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time under head coach Jason Skoch the Saint Leo volleyball team found itself on the losing end of a 3-0 match as the Sunshine State Conference leader Lynn University swept the Lions in Boca Raton. The Fighting Knights posted a .325 hitting percentage in the match while holding the Lions to a .195 percentage.

The loss drops the Lions' record to 17-10 while their Sunshine State Conference mark moves to 9-8. The Fighting Knights improved to 23-4 in 2019 and 14-2 in conference action.

The Lions account for one of Lynn's four losses as Saint Leo swept Lynn 3-0 in Saint Leo earlier this season.

In Saturday's match senior Anilise Fitzi led the Lions attack with 11 kills and a pair of the blocks. The Walton, New Zealand native posted a .474 hitting percentage in the match to lead the team as well. Juniors Michelle Cuervo and Ashley Quero each finished with nine kills in the loss. The also each added a pair of blocks to the effort.

Redshirt junior Anna Garrett handed out 29 assists while adding six digs and a block. Senior Fabiola Rosado led the team in digs with 12 as she was the lone Lion to reach double-figures in the category.

The Fighting Knights won in straight sets 25-20, 25-23 and 25-17. With three matches left in the regular season, the Lions are battling for fourth place in the SSC standings. One win separates fourth through eighth place in the standings with Barry, Eckerd, Saint Leo and Nova Southeastern battling to make a case for NCAA South Regional selection.

Saint Leo will return to action Friday Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. as the Lions host Florida Tech. The final three matches for the Lions will be home versus Florida Tech, home against Embry-Riddle and on the road at Rollins.
