ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team returned to the win column Tuesday night as the Lions avenged a 3-1 loss earlier this season at home by defeating the Tritons of Eckerd College 3-1 on the road. Two of the four sets went into extra points as the Lions took home the highly-contested battle.

Fresh off being named Saint Leo University's Homecoming Queen, senior
Victoria Omoregie led the Lions with 18 kills while hitting for an impressive .571 percentage. The Lions as a team hit .329 with four attackers reaching double-figures in kills. Â

Omoregie also added a team-best six blocks for an all-around effort. Junior
Ashley Quero chipped in 14 kills and four digs while classmate
Michelle Cuervo added 12 kills, a dig and a block. The final Lion in double-figures was senior
Anilise Fitzi who had 10 kills, six digs and five blocks including one solo stop.

Anna Garrett dished out 50 assists over the four sets while also sneaking in three kills, nine digs and a block. Sophomore libero
Payton Bellano led the way in digs with 21 while sophomore
Cassandra Kamien added 14.

The Lions won the opening two sets 25-22 and 27-25. The Lions led 24-22 late in the set but a kill followed by a service ace by the Tritons tied the set at 24. Saint Leo picked up its third opportunity at set point due to an attack error by the Tritons. Another Eckerd kill tied the set at 25 but back-to-back kills from Fitzi and Quero ended the set and gave the Lions a commanding 2-0 set lead.

The third set also came down to the wire. With the set tied at 24 the Tritons forced their first set point of the period with a kill but Fitzi and the Lions responded with a kill followed by an attack error from the Tritons to force their first match point of the night at 26-25. A kill followed by a block by Eckerd earned the Tritons a second set point. A kill from junior
Brooke Turner fended off the Tritons once more but a kill followed by an attack error ended the set in Eckerd's favor 29-27.

The Lions came out inspired in the fourth set as they opned up an 18-11 lead. They would cruise the rest of the way winning the set and match 25-17. The Lions hit .500 as a team in the final set connecting on 15 kills on just 26 attacks while holding the Tritons to a .156 percentage.

Asya Harris led the Eckerd attack with 22 kills while Anna Jungjohann added 17.

Saint Leo will return to action Friday night as the Lions travel to Nova Southeastern for a 7 p.m. match.
