Bracken Paces Lions at National Championship Saturday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Saint Leo men's cross country closed the 2019 season at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country National Championships in 30th place at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex Saturday. Shane Bracken paced the team with a top-80th finish. 

Bracken, who ran a time of 31:20.8, finished in 79th for the Green and Gold, 51 spots ahead of the Shawn Bell. Bell ran the 10K course in a time of 31:51.2 to conclude his Saint Leo career in 130th at the national championships. 

Blake Watson (165th, 32:12.3) and Felix Nadeborn (187th, 32:29.7) were the next two across the line for the Green and Gold before Pierre (210, 32:48.5) and Tadgh McGinty (235, 33:30.4) crossed the line. Fabio Fornarelli closed out the Lions on the course in 257th in 34:40.0. 

Colorado School of Mines took home first in the team race with 57 points, while American International's Ezra Mutai took first in the individual standings crossing the line at 29:31.2. 

Saint Leo closed the season with six top-10 finishes in seven races on the year with three first place honors. The Lions opened the season with a win at the Florida Tech Invitational before following that up with first at the FLRunners.com Invitational. The Green and Gold captured the fourth Sunshine State Conference Championship to open up postseason running before a third place at the NCAA DII South Regional in Lakeland, Fla.
