Rickmann’s Goal Not Enough Against Nova Southeastern

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team fell in a 2-1 final to Nova Southeastern Saturday night at the Saint Leo Soccer Field. The Sharks offense pressed with 22 shots while the Lions put up seven shots. The Sunshine State Conference decision moved the Green and Gold's record to 6-8, 3-5 SSC, while the Sharks improved their record to 7-4-3, 4-3-1 SSC.

The Sharks and Lions held a scoreless draw at the half despite a lopsided shot count. Nova Southeastern struck three minutes after the start of the second. Saint Leo answered, putting together a strand of passes for Elias Niesigk to gather the ball at his feet inside the Shark's 18-yard box. Niesigk dished it back to Gabriel Rickmann who ripped the equalizer in the 55th minute.

The two teams would play tied at 1-1 for nine minutes before Henrik Berg sliced the Green and Gold backline for what would prove to be the game-winner in the 64th minute.

Christian Evans racked up five saves in goal, four coming in the first half and one in the second.

The Lions hit the road for midweek action on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Lynn. The Sunshine State Conference kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
