Women's Soccer falls to Lenoir-Rhyne Friday

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo women's soccer opened its home portion of 2018 on the wrong side after a 55th-minute goal from Lenoir-Rhyne at Saint Leo Soccer Field Friday night. 

The Lions (1-2) ripped off six shots on the night, three on frame, led by Raylyn Straubmuller with two. The Bears (2-1) tallied nine shots against Saint Leo with three on frame as well. Saint Leo won the corner battle 4-3, where all four were in the second half. 

Junior keeper, Julia Ortiz notched two saves in the full 90 minutes of action in goal, including a diving save in the 32nd minute. Lenoir-Rhyne scored the go-ahead and eventual game winner in the 55th-minute when Stephanie Figueiredo launched the ball over Ortiz and into the right side of the net. 

The Green and Gold return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. when the Royals of Queen University of Charlotte come to town.
