Volleyball and women's soccer look to protect home turf while men's soccer heads north

Women's Soccer Notes

Saint Leo earned a comeback victory at West Alabama on Sunday, 2-1. Caitlin Strong scored her first collegiate goal as the equalizer in the 59th minute. Bailey Hern then tallied the game-winner, assisted by Strong. 
Julia Ortiz racked up 13 saves during the first two games of the season, including a PK stop. Ortiz saw 27 shots while facing Mississippi College and West Alabama. She earned a .813 save percentage and a 1.46 saves against average in 185 minutes of work. 
Lenoir-Rhyne suffered a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Belmont Abbey on Monday.
• Judith Verdaguer scored the lone goal of the game for the Bears in the 25th minute. 
• Goalkeeper, Loren Sterling, gathered nine saves in the Bear's first two games of the season. 
Queens visits Tampa on Friday followed by a Sunday morning game at Saint Leo. 
• The Royals' offense is led by Charlotte Ring with two goals and an assist.
• Goalkeeper, Rachel Quest, has collected five saves after 14 shots faced.

Men's Soccer Notes
  • Saint Leo fell to No.18 Wingate 3-2 in Winter Park, Fla., on Saturday. The loss moved the Lions' overall record to 1-1.
  • Dion Dozzell scored three goals in the first two games of the season.
  • Goalkeeper Christian Evans enters the weekend with four saves.
  • Montevallo fell 5-0 to Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla., on Monday.
  • Junior Liam Moore led Montevallo with his three shots attempted in the contest, including the Falcons' lone shot on goal.
  • Goalkeeper Robert Kuta finished with five saves in the match, he has 13 on the season.
  • West Florida will face No. 25 Rollins before hosting Saint Leo.
  • Isaiah Lopez leads the Argonauts' offense with a goal while Jacob Murray directs the defense with seven saves.

Volleyball Notes
  • Saint Leo opens Sunshine State Conference play this weekend with a trip to Eckerd on Friday and a home contest against No. 21 Florida Southern on Saturday. 
  • The Lions have been led offensively this season by sophomore Ashley Quero (2.67 kps) and junior Victoria Omoregie (2.48 kps) while freshman libero Payton Bellano (4.70 dps) and senior middle blocker Dallas Jasper (0.93 bps) have taken charge of the defensive side of the net. 
  • Saint Leo has played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the SSC this season including facing three top-25 opponents and playing in one of the top NCAA Division II tournaments in the country, the Colorado Premier Challenge.   
  • Eckerd and Florida Southern went toe-to-toe Tuesday night in Lakeland with the Moccasins edging out the Tritons 3-2 in a back-and-forth match. The Tritons are 2-2 at home this season and are led by freshman Asya Harris (3.36 kps) and senior Abbie O'Ferrell (3.09 kps).
  • Florida Southern is ranked among the top-25 this season and has the SSC kill leader Nicole Mattson (5.21 kps) leading the way. After opening the season with three-straight losses, the Mocs are riding a six-match win streak including a 3-1 victory over No. 4 Ferris State in Lakeland.
