ST. PETERBURG, Fla. – The No. 1 Saint Leo men's tennis team clinched the 2018 Sunshine State Conference regular season champion title on Wednesday at Eckerd. The Lions cleaned up the Tritons 9-0 on their way to taking the title. The win raised the Green & Gold overall record to 18-0, 7-0 in the SSC.
No. 2, no. 1 doubles,
Thomas Grinberg and
Vincent Suillerot recorded an 8-1 decision. No. 2
Francisco Aparicio and
Aurel Ciocanu (8-3) and no. 3
Bruno Babic and
Willem Van Den Akker (8-1) finished the doubles sweep.
No. 1, no.1 singles,
Thomas Grinberg along with No. 13, no. 2
Vincent Suillerot and no. 4
Francisco Aparicio all showcased perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins.
No. 5
Willem Van Den Akker handed and no. 6
Aurel Ciocanu each handed in 6-2, 6-0 decisions.
No. 3
Bruno Babic fought for the three set win; 4-6, 6-1, 10-6.
On Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 p.m. the Lions bring to a close the regular season at the Saint Leo Tennis Center against No. 21 Palm Beach Atlantic. Before the match, Saint Leo will celebrate and honor its five graduating student-athletes:
