#10 Softball drops 1-0 decision to Nova Southeastern

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Saint Leo softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to the visiting Nova Southeastern Sharks Friday night to open up the Sunshine State Conference series at University Softball Stadium.

The Lions (18-7, 4-6 SSC) saw Alison Mitts toss the seven inning complete game, where the senior righty moves to 7-3 on the year in the circle. Mitts tallied six strikeouts, while giving up one run on three hits in the pitcher's duel.

Amanda James led the team offensively going 2-for-2 with one walk. Sommer Pollard was only other player to pick up a hit going 1-for-2 on the night.

Nova Southeastern and Saint Leo each notched three hits in the errorless game. The Sharks scored the lone run in the sixth inning after a single to left field allowed for the runner to score from second. The Green and Gold left runners on the base paths in the second, fourth and seventh inning.

Saint Leo and Nova Southeastern return to the diamond Saturday, March 10 for a SSC doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
