SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 13 Saint Leo women's tennis teamed overwhelmed Saginaw Valley State 9-0 on Thursday. The sweep raised the Lions' overall record to 6-2.
"Being a former coach in the GLIAC, I know how hard Saginaw Valley competes," expressed head coach
Chad Berryhill. "Today was a good win for our team, especially playing in less than ideal conditions with wind and cold weather."
Maja Pindelska and
Madeleine Gauthier filled out no. 1 doubles (8-4),
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Andrada Gordan got it done at no. 2 doubles (8-1) and
Kristyna Jurkova and
Sophie Vlietstra at no. 3 handed in an 8-3 decision.
Berryhill continued, "Our doubles continues to improve and our singles have played very consistent all year long, so I am happy with our play today."
Vicens Miquel displayed a no. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 win while Jurkova tallied a 6-4, 6-2 no. 2 win and Pindelska earned a 6-1, 6-3 no. 3 final. Gauthier rolled over no. 4 opponent 6-3, 6-3.
Fabiola Cardenas topped no. 5 singles 6-2, 6-3.
Andrada Gordan upended no. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.
The Lions continue competition against Wayne State University on Monday, March 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
