SAINT LEO, Fla. – The no. 13 Saint Leo women's tennis team turned in an 8-1 win against Rollins on Wednesday. The mid-week Sunshine State Conference match improves Saint Leo's overall record to 5-2, 2-2 in the SSC.
"Today was a good team win for us with everyone finding success," said head coach
Chad Berryhill. "We lost 5-4 to Rollins last year and both teams returned a lot of players. This shows good progress for our team. We have improved and will continue to improve."
No. 1 and no. 3 doubles delivered the 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Maja Pindelska and
Madeleine Gauthier defeated no. 1 opponents 8-4. Likewise,
Kristyna Jurkova and
Sophie Vlietstra downed no. 3 Tars 8-4.
The Lions cruised through singles, taking all six matches. No. 1
Marta Vicens Miquel delivered a 6-4, 6-4 score. No. 2
Kristyna Jurkova fought for a 6-3, 7-5 win.
Maja Pindelska overtook no. 3 posting a 6-3, 6-0 wins followed by no. 4
Madeleine Gauthier's 6-1, 6-2 finish. No. 5
Fabiola Cardenas pulled off a three set match; 6-7, 6-2, 10-3.
Andrada Gordan handled no. 6 opponent 7-5, 6-2.
Saint Leo will be back on the courts tomorrow, Thursday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. to face Saginaw Valley State.
