#10 Softball slays the Dragons in doubleheader sweep

SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 10 Saint Leo softball picked up two more wins in mid-week action with a 9-1 win in five innings over Tiffin before sweeping the doubleheader with a 5-0 game two over the Dragons at University Softball Stadium.

Entering the Wednesday doubleheader, Saint Leo (18-6) took a two game win streak and extended it to four with 12 innings of play. The Lions took game one with a 9-1 score in five innings after scoring five runs in the first and back-to-back innings with two runs.

Alison Mitts picked up the win in game one with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed while holding the Dragons scoreless. Sara Neuman came in for relief and tallied two strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits. Neuman closed the door on the Dragons with three groundouts in the fifth inning.

Auria Mounts got the nod in game two and went the complete 7.0 innings allowing just three hits while fanning three batters. Mounts worked four 1-2-3 innings including the top of the seventh where she got Tiffin to foul out to Sommer Pollard behind the plate; foul out to Bethany Kursch at first and a deep fly out to Bailey Burk in right field.

Amanda James paced the Lions on the night, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two doubles, ending the night with a 1.250-slugging percentage. Closely behind James, Shyanne DuBois, Bailey McKenna, and Kacie Kelly all hit .500 from the dish while Kelly led the way in scoring with three runs scored.

The Lions outscored the Dragons 14-1 in 12 innings behind Kelly's three. James, DuBois, McKenna, Sarah Pauscher and Ashley Morris all scored two runs in the twinbill where Kursch picked up one.

Pauscher used the lone long ball of the night with a two-run home run in game one on her way to finishing the night with a team-leading three RBI. Morris tied Pauscher with three RBI, just ahead of DuBois (2), McKenna (2) and Kursch (1).

No. 10 Saint Leo returns to the field on March 9th when the Green and Gold dips back into Sunshine State Conference play with the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University at University Softball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
