Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. – The women's lacrosse team cleaned up at Lenoir-Rhyne 18-4 on Sunday in Hickory N.C. The win marks Saint Leo's second consecutive win on the road, remaining undefeated in the 2018 season with a 5-0 overall record.
Leslie Ferguson's six goal performance ties Saint Leo's single game goal record. She shares the record with
Kelsey Burns who scored six over Regis (Colo.) on April 8, 2017 and Stephanie Marran who tallied six against Indiana Tech on March 18, 2012.
Saint Leo's offensive surge produced 14 consecutive goals between 18:50 in the first half and 13:26 in the second half of play.
Head Coach
Caitlin Hansen commented, "This was a great way to close out our first road trip! We were a little slow to start offensively today but our defensive unit, led by
Amanda Coppolo,
Jody Madsen and
Neely Regan, kept generating possessions for us until we could find our groove. Katie Larson had important defensive responsibilities in this game and rose to the occasion. She played her best all-around game to date and also picked up timely ground balls that led to transition goals for us."
Hansen continued, "
Leslie Ferguson continued to prove that she is one of our top finishers. An added bonus has been
Kaylah Walstad's transition defense. She used her speed so well there and caused turnovers that led to great offensive looks. She had one to her sister, Lexie, that was a huge momentum changer for us."
"I am so proud of where we are as a team right now. I have highlighted a few players but everyone stepped up and did their jobs this weekend. It will be nice to return home and ready ourselves for the next three tests we have in Tusculum, Assumption, and American International College," concluded Hansen.
