Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – #9 Saint Leo women's tennis team locked in a 5-4 win at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics #1 Keiser on Friday.
Maja Pindelska's no. 3 three set victory clinched the team match, raising the Lions' overall record to 12-4.
"We had a good chance to go up 3-0 in doubles but found ourselves down 1-2," explained head coach
Chad Berryhill.
No. 2 duo
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Andrada Gordan were the only pair to seal a win, 8-3. Keiser's no. 1 and no. 3 doubles outplayed the Lions 9-7 in each slot.
Berryhill continued, "I am so proud of our team for battling in singles to beat a very good Keiser team."
All four singles matches were won in three set battles. No. 60
Kristyna Jurkova won no.2 singles 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Fabiola Cardenas took no. 5 singles 6-0, 6-7, 6-0 while
Andrada Gordan settled the no. 6 match 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. Meanwhile,
Maja Pindelska continued her no. 3 battle. Tied at 4-4, Pindelska dropped her first match 4-6 but came back 6-2, 6-2 for the match win.
Friday's contest at Keiser marked the conclusion of non-conference matches in the regular season. Saint Leo continues play tomorrow, Saturday, March 31, at 10:00 at No. 7 Lynn.
