SAINT LEO, Fla. –
Shyanne DuBois posed a threat to the Florida Southern Moccasins Thursday night where she led the Saint Leo softball team to a doubleheader sweep. The Lions defeated the Mocs 3-1 and 7-1, respectively, to take the Sunshine State Conference series 3-0. DuBois went 4-for-6 from the plate for the day with four runs scored and 5-for-5 in stolen bases.
After taking the win in game one of the series,
Alison Mitts came out of the pen to close the door in both games on the Mocs where she picked up the win in game one Thursday before tossing the final 2.1 innings in game two. Mitts finished the day with three innings of work and one strikeout with just one run scored.
Auria Mounts got the start in game one and went 6.1 innings allowing three hits and just one unearned run while picking up one strikeout on her way to her 13th win of the season.
Sara Neuman started game two and went 4.2 innings with five hits and three runs with three strikeouts.
Behind DuBois' night at the plate,
Bailey McKenna went 3-for-5 as
Brittany Creamer went 2-for-4. Both McKenna and Creamer scored two runs, trailing just DuBois' four, where
Bethany Kursch was credited with the last run of the day.
Alexis Miniet went 1.000 from the box going 2-for-2 in her two plate appearances. Creamer led the Lions in RBI with three, off her three-run homer in game two.
Game One – Saint Leo 3, Florida Southern 1
The Lions would score first in the second inning as
Bailey McKenna roped one to third, which saw
Shyanne DuBois come in to score. Florida Southern answered with one in the third inning before the Lions tallied two in the fourth inning.
Bethany Kursch's single brought DuBois in before a bases loaded single up the middle by
Sommer Pollard allowed Kursch to score.
The Mocs would threaten but Mounts teamed up with
Alison Mitts to close the door on Florida Southern. Mitts entered the game with a 1-1 count on Alex Mace with one out and one on. Mitts gave up a single before two groundouts ended the game.
Game Two – Saint Leo 7, Florida Southern 1
Florida Southern came out and scored first in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead on the Lions, who already had the series locked up after winning the first two games. Saint Leo came right back scoring three in the bottom of the first after
Shyanne DuBois started off with a single to left center and then swiped a bag. A bunt single by
Bailey McKenna allowed DuBois to score before
Kacie Kelly hit a two-out single to left field, scoring
Brittany Creamer and McKenna.
After a scoreless top half of the second for the Mocs, Saint Leo picked up right where it left off adding four more in the bottom half. With one out, DuBois came back up and laid down a bunt single. Did she steal second? Yep, she then swiped second before coming in on a single down the left field line by
Bethany Kursch.
With
Brigette Soza in to pinch run, and a base knock for
Bailey McKenna, the Mocs went to the pen and brought in Aubrey Ehlers.
Her first pitch to
Brittany Creamer ended up on the outside of the ball park as Creamer drove in three runs on one swing scoring herself, McKenna and Soza.
Florida Southern would add one two more in the fifth making it a 7-3 game in the fifth before adding one more in the seventh inning where the Lions failed to score any runs after Creamer's bomb in the third.
Mitts would pitch the final 2.1 innings and hold off Florida Southern, as the Lions went on for the 7-4 win.
