WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 18 Saint Leo baseball traveled to Palm Beach Atlantic and picked up its 24th win of the season and seventh in the Sunshine State Conference after a 12-6 win over the Sailfish.
The win pushed the Lions overall record to 24-5, 7-3 SSC and extended the win streak for the Green and Gold to five games. Saint Leo scattered 15 hits on the night scoring 12 runs where the Lions used the long ball to get a jump-start on the Sailfish.
Zach Scott's first inning grandslam pushed the Lions ahead 4-0 with one out. After a
Jared Morello single in the second inning,
Chase Turner took his turn hitting a deep shot, where he drove in three runs making it 8-1 in the second inning.
PBA would cut it to four runs in the bottom half of the second with three runs to make it 8-4 before making it 8-5 with an RBI single in the third.
Two scoreless innings between the two teams saw it head to the sixth with Saint Leo leading 8-5. A sacrifice fly from turner added another run for the Green and Gold; Lions 9-5.
The Sailfish got one back in the seventh inning to make it 9-6 before
Peyton Isaacson doubled in the eighth scoring
Amir Wright to make it 10-6. Turner stepped in and hit a single to left center, where Morello and Isaacson came in to score, what would be the final runs of the game.
Jordan Pendleton got the nod and win on the road moving to 4-1 on the year after going 7.0 innings allowing 10 hits and six runs, five earned, while notching eight strikeouts.
Blake Bodin came in for the final two innings allowing just one hit in the seven batters faced.
Chase Turner turned in the best batting average after going 2-for-2 with a single and three-run homer for six RBI on the night with two hit-by-pitches.
Amir Wright finished the night going 3-for-5 with a team best three runs scored, tying
Jared Morello. Morello went 2-for-4 from the plate tying
Peyton Isaacson, Turner,
Zach Scott, and
Lane Stancil with two hits on the night.
Turner's six RBI paced the team where
Zach Scott turned in four with one swing of the bat. Morello and Isaacson were credited with the other two RBI on the night.
