SAINT LEO, Fla. – The #9 Saint Leo women's tennis team took care of #25 Tampa, 7-2, on Wednesday at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The decision raised the Lions' overall record to 11-4, 3-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.
"This was a good bounce back win for our team today after a tough 5-4 loss yesterday," expressed head coach
Chad Berryhill. "This is a tough four match week so we needed to get this one."
Saint Leo put together a 2-1 advantage from doubles. No. 43 duo at no. 1 doubles
Maja Pindelska and
Madeleine Gauthier overwhelmed opponents 8-2. No. 3 doubles,
Kristyna Jurkova and Sophie Vliestra delivered an 8-4 final.
No. 1 singles, No. 19
Marta Vicens Miquel, cashed in a 6-3, 6-0 win. The win improved her overall record to 10-5.
No. 2 singles, No. 60
Kristyna Jurkova, claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win. Jurkova has put together a 14-1 no. 2 singles record on the season.
No. 3
Maja Pindelska (6-1, 6-4), no. 4
Madeleine Gauthier (7-6, 6-1) and no. 5
Fabiola Cardenas (6-3, 6-3) all rolled out victories.
Saint Leo will conclude non-conference play of the regular season on Friday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Keiser.
