PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No.13 Saint Leo women's tennis team snatched a 5-4 win over Georgia College thanks to
Marta Vicens Miquel's no.1 singles victory. Tied at 4-4, the freshman from Port De Pollensa, Spain secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory, raising the Lions overall record to 9-3.
"The doubles matches today were very tight on all three courts. We won seven games in a row at no.1 doubles for the win. Georgia College played a very good match today and we were fortunate enough to win tight matches at first and second singles along with a good win at number six," said head coach
Chad Berryhill.
Maja Pindelska and
Madeleine Gauthier clinched a no.1 8-6 win while no.2
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Andrada Gordan did the same, 8-6.
No.2 singles,
Kristyna Jurkova, recorded a 6-3, 7-5 win. No.6
Andrada Gordan cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win. No.1 sealed the team win recording a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
On Thursday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m., Saint Leo will return to action against Washburn University at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida.
