PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 13 Saint Leo women's tennis five match winning streak came to a halt in Saturday's match at No. 5 West Florida. The Argonauts handed the Lions a 6-3 loss moving the Green and Gold record to 8-3 overall.
Kristyna Jurkova and
Sophie Vlietstra remain undefeated in no. 3 doubles, raising their record to 6-0 at West Florida. The duo battled for an 8-6 win.
Madeleine Gauthier at no. 4 singles managed a three set match victory (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) against no. 31 Valeria Mantilla.
Fabiola Cardenas tallied the third match point for Saint Leo. Cardenas took a no. 5 win from no. 36 Diana Vlad, also in three set match fashion (6-3, 4-6, 6-0).
"Our team fought very hard today," said head coach
Chad Berryhill. "We didn't play the level of doubles we needed to but our singles played very hard, with a lot of three match sets. Overall I am happy with our efforts and our team is motivated to keep getting better."
Saint Leo will close out their time at the West Florida Tournament on Sunday, March 18 against Georgia College. The match start is set at 9:30 a.m.
