SAINT LEO, Fla. – Behind 6.1-innings of work from senior right-hander
Alison Mitts, the No. 23 ranked Saint Leo softball team shutout Young Harris, 4-0 Friday night in the Lions' home opener at University Softball Stadium.
Mitts tossed 6.1 innings with five strikeouts and three walks before
Auria Mounts came in for relief for the final 0.2 innings. Mounts came in with one on and one out before getting the final two hitters to ground out and fly out to end the game.
Ashley Morris led the team going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. The Green and Gold's double leader,
Kacie Kelly picked up her first triple to lead off the bottom of the fifth. Kelly finished 1-for-2 with one run scored and one walk.
Shyanne DuBois and
Sarah Pauscher went 2-for-3 on the night, where Pauscher picked up two RBI.
The Lions scored two in the fourth inning after
Ashley Morris hit a one-out single up the middle and came around to score on Pauscher's single up the middle, which also scored
Shyanne DuBois.
Saint Leo added two more in the fifth following Kelly's leadoff triple to left center. Morris drove in Kelly before coming in to score as the Mountain Lions threw down to second to attempt to throw out
Shyanne DuBois.
Mitts tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the sixth before handing the ball over to Mounts in the seventh with one out.
The Lions and Mountain Lions return to the field Saturday, February 10 at 1 p.m.
