SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 23 ranked Saint Leo softball team completed the trifecta over Young Harris with a doubleheader sweep Saturday with scores of 3-1 and 4-1.
Auria Mounts and
Alison Mitts picked up wins Saturday as Mounts pitched the complete game in game one to win allowing eight hits and one run with six strikeouts. Mitts came in and pitched 4.2 innings in game two after
Samantha Tyler started the game. Mitts allowed three hits and one unearned run while striking out two batters. Tyler allowed four hits in 2.1 innings of work and no runs.
Kacie Kelly led the offensive going 2-for-6 with one run scored.
Bethany Kursch,
Bailey Burk,
Ashley Morris,
Sarah Pauscher, and
Shyanne DuBois all tallied one hit on the day while all six players scored at least one run as Pauscher led with two.
In game one, the Lions got on the board first scoring all three runs in the bottom of the first. Kelly started things off with a single to left center followed by a
Shyanne DuBois single to center scoring Kelly.
Sarah Pauscher and
Bethany Kursch would come in on a fielding error by the left fielder.
The Mountain Lions threated but Mounts would close the door in the seventh getting Young Harris to ground out, fly out and foul fly out. Mounts moved to 3-1 on the year with the win.
In game two, the two teams would play scoreless until the fifth inning when Young Harris scored first. The Lions committed two errors in the fifth inning allowing the Mountain Lions get a run. Saint Leo went in a row in the bottom half of the fifth before a messy defensive game for Young Harris allowed for the Lions to tie it and take the lead.
Sarah Pauscher doubled to center field scoring Morris before a bases loaded walk to
Alyssa Wash pushed DuBois across for the go-ahead run.
Brittany Creamer came up with one out and bases still juiced and took the first pitch in the helmet to walk in Pauscher.
Bailey Burk came in for the fourth run on a muffed catch by the catcher.
Mitts came in and got the final three outs with a pop up to Morris at third, fly out to
Bailey McKenna in right field before a fly out to Burk in center.
The Lions will open Sunshine State Conference play with a trip to Winter Park on February 16th at 7pm.
