SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 24 Saint Leo women's tennis upset No. 14 Nova Southeastern 6-3 on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Down 2-1 after doubles competition, Saint Leo's singles play won 5-of-6 matches, raising the Lions' overall record to 3-0.

Chad Berryhill said, "Our team competed the best I have seen since starting at Saint Leo. I am extremely proud of our effort today and competitiveness. We responded after being down in doubles like a mature and experienced team. Nova is a tough team and played well. They definitely gave us some tough matchups in multiple positions but our team responded and found a way."
Andrada Gordan and
Sophie Vlietstra defeated third doubles opponents 8-4 before heading into single matchups.
Saint Leo won second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles for the win.
Kristyna Jurkova battled for second singles finishing with a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) decision.
Maja Pindelska also showcased a tiebreaker win in third singles; 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Madeleine Gauthier took fourth singles, 7-5, 6-4.
Fabiola Cardenas won fifth singles in another long match; 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Andrada Gordan kept her momentum from doubles play and won sixth singles 6-2, 6-3.
"This was good confidence building as we go into next week against a tough Florida Southern team," concluded Berryhill.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. to host the Florida Southern Mocs at the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
