WINTER PARK, Fla. – No. 23 Saint Leo softball hit the road for the Sunshine State Conference opener, and won in come from behind fashion against the Rollins College Tars, 5-4 Friday night.

The Lions move to 9-1 on the year with a 1-0 mark in the SSC after the win. Saint Leo trailed the Tars 2-0 and 3-1 after four innings before scoring two in the top of the fifth and sixth while holding Rollins to just one more run over the final three innings.

Alison Mitts moves to 5-0 on the year after the win in the circle for the Green and Gold, pitching 5.2 innings of work with eight strikeouts and four runs.
Auria Mounts picked up a save after tossing 1.1 innings of work with one strikeout and no runs scored and just a single hit.
Ashley Morris led the Lions offensive attack with two hits where
Kacie Kelly,
Shyanne DuBois,
Sarah Pauscher,
Maddy Lynn and
Brittany Creamer all notched one hit.
Sommer Pollard led the way in scoring with two runs where DuBois, Lynn and Creamer all crossed the plate once.Â

Shyanne DuBois would score the Lions' first run of the night on a
Sarah Pauscher single in the fourth inning. It would be the top of the fifth where momentum swung into the Lions' dugout after
Brittany Creamer took the 1-2 pitch over the wall for a solo homer to cut it to 3-2.

With two on and no outs, DuBois would hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Sommer Pollard to tie things at 3-3.

Maddy Lynn would use a one out double down the left field line to get into scoring position for the Lions. Lynn slid over to third on a ground out to Creamer before coming in for the go ahead run on a wild pitch. The Lions wouldn't stop there as Pollard walked and stole second to get herself in position to come home with two outs.

Reigning Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year stepped up to the plate and hit a single to center field scoring Pollard to put the Green and Gold up 5-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

After a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth, Mitts would get two outs before
Auria Mounts came in for relief. Mounts would get the first batter she faced to pop up a bunt towards first where
Bethany Kursch made an excellent diving grab for the final out of the inning.

Mounts would shut the door in the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout, foul out to Kursch at first and a ground out to Creamer to retire the side with a runner on base.

Saint Leo and Rollins continue the opening SSC series at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 17 in Winter Park.
