SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's tennis downed State College of Florida on Saturday, 9-0. The sweep marks the squad's second sweep of the season.
Head Coach
Chad Berryhill said, "The ladies did a good job this weekend playing three matches in three days with a scrimmage between two official matches. We are definitely improving and headed in the right direction. Our doubles play has been strong to start the year, unlike last year, where we struggled in the early part of the season in doubles, so is good to see us making good strides with a young group."
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Maja Pindelska won first doulbes 8-0 followed by
Kristyna Jurkova and
Madeleine Gauthier also with 8-0 win in second doubles. State College of Florida forfeited third doubles.
In singles play,
Marta Vicens Miquel took first singles 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
Kristyna Jurkova in second singles won 6-2, 6-2.
Madeleine Gauthier earned a long third singles win, 1-6, 6-0, 15-13. Fourth and fifth single wins were posted by
Fabiola Cardenas 6-0, 6-0 and
Sophie Vlietstra 6-0, 6-0. South College of Florida forfeited sixth singles.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. to open Sunshine State Conference play at Nova Southeastern.
