Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wortley’s career-high double double lifts Saint Leo 50-45 over PBA

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Casey Wortley registered career-high double double to lead the Saint Leo women's basketball team to a 50-45 win at Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Wortley scored game-high 24 points while snatching team-high 10 rebounds. The 6'3 Forward closed Sunshine State Conference contest going 8-for-14 FG, knocking down 7-of-11 3FG. She added three points from the charity stripe, three blocks and a steal to her big night.

Saint Leo ran away with the back-and-forth ball game in the last three-minutes of the game. Wortley's performance kept the Sailfish lead to a minimum. Reinforcements came in the form of an Alani Gallagher layup and Abby Zeitsiff three-pointer during the Green & Gold 6-0 finishing victory run.

Head Coach Crocitto said, "I was proud of the group. Casey Wortley stood out in many ways as a scorer, rebounder, leader and defensive stopper. Asia Royster hit a key three in a solid fourth quarter."

Crocitto continued, "It will be nice to come home this week. We are excited to see our fans back in the Bowman."

How It Happened
  • Wortley scored 11 points in the first ten minutes of action. She put away 3-of-4 3FG to lift Saint Leo 17-16 over PBA at the end of the first quarter.
  • A low scoring second quarter plagued both the teams. The Sailfish outscored the Lions eight to six for a PBA one-point lead at the half, 24-23.
  • Wortley made her fourth three-pointer of the night followed by a long ball by Gina Brierley. With 1:06 left in the quarter, Wortley tallied another one from downtown. Despite the three balls, PBA held onto a 37-36 lead after three quarters.
  • A two-minute fourth quarter scoring drought by Saint Leo allowed the hosts to cling to their lead. Asia Royster registered the Lions' ninth three-pointer to cut the Sailfish advantage to one point, 43-42 (5:38). Royster's jumper flipped the leaderboard. The Lions took the lead 44-43 with 4:28 left on the clock. PBA's scoring went cold in the last three minutes of the game. Saint Leo capitalized, going on a 6-0 run to secure the win.
