SAINT LEO, Fla. –
Delaney Bernard knocked down 10-for-12 three-pointers during her career-high 32-point performance in the Saint Leo Lions 93-60 win over the Trinity Tigers. The sophomore guard went 11-for-13 from the hardwood leaving her previous 3.5 points per game season average in the dust.
As a team, Saint Leo scored 20 points or more each quarter registering a game .507 FG%.
Alani Gallagher joined Bernard in the double digits with 10 points and added five rebounds.
Tamara Shash earned team-high six rebounds.
"The bench knew Delaney was onto something special," expressed head coach
Anthony Crocitto. "I've never seen a player in the zone that long."
"It was good to get everyone some playing time tonight.
Day Jackson had a great couple minutes and
Tamara Shash had a good day. We will have a good practice tomorrow to get ready for Nova Southeastern," concluded Crocitto.
How It Happened
- Delaney Bernard started the night with back-to-back three-pointers in the Lions' 6-0 opening run. By the end of the first, Saint Leo held a comfortable 26-13 lead over Trinity.
- Saint Leo outscored Trinity 24-15 in the second quarter. Bernard added a pair of threes to her night while Alex Button joined in on the fun around the arc.
- The Lions stayed hot finding Bernard open and ready. Bernard sunk 4-for-4 three-pointers going 5-for-5 from the field in the third quarter. Alani Gallagher added two buckets along with a basket from Abby Zeitsiff.
- Trinity battled, holding Saint Leo to a 23-22 last quarter. Tamara Shash went 3-for-3 on the floor while snatching three rebounds.
