SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Montevallo Falcons escaped the Saint Leo Lions' quick start Saturday afternoon in the Bowman Center. The non-conference action handed Saint Leo a 67-57 loss despite two double figure shooting performances and a double digit rebounding day by
Alani Gallagher.
The loss dropped Saint Leo to 2-1 on the season while Montevallo improved to 2-2.
How It Happened
- Saint Leo led with an 8-0 run against Montevallo. The 3rd minute of action marked the visitors first bucket. Meanwhile, Delaney Bernard racked up four points, Alani Gallagher grabbed six rebounds, and Brierley earned four assists in the Lions' 14-8 lead after the first quarter.
- The Falcons went on an 8-0 run during a four-minute scoring drought that struck the Lions in the second. Gallagher's good jumper snapped the streak with four minutes remaining in the second. Saint Leo was able to hold onto the lead, 29-23, at the half.
- Montevallo tied the game at 33 on the charity stripe with 6:29 remaining in the third. A 12-0 Falcon run put the Lions in an eight-point hole. Alex Button and Brierley's three-pointers closed the gap. Montevallo led 45-42 after three.
- Brierley's good free throw forced a lead change, 51-50, with 7:54 remaining in regulation. The Falcons answered quickly, retaking the lead for the remainder of the game.
- Gina Brierley led the Lions' offensive efforts with 17 points, six assists. Alani Gallagher earned team-high 10 rebounds and added six points. Casey Wortley also scored double figures with 13 points and snagged six rebounds.
