Two-goal lead fades in double overtime loss

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's soccer team saw an early two-goal lead fade as the Tritons of Eckerd College forced double overtime and converted a penalty kick to steal the win, 3-2.

Saint Leo (2-7, 1-4 SSC) struck in the opening fourth minute. Carolina Solis-Deleon netted a far post goal, assisted by Laura Hallissey. Momentum continued in the Lions' favor. Ten minutes later, Hallissey finished a deflected ball to extend the Green and Gold's advantage.

Eckerd (6-3-1, 3-2 SSC) responded in the second half with two goals coming off the foot off Becky Caraker. Caraker powered through a messy loose ball inside the box in the 52nd minute to tally the Tritons first goal. The Lions' pair was matched in the 72nd minute. Paula Astiazaran's shot bounced off the crossbar and landed at the feet of Stephanie Linton.

The late equalizer forced an overtime period that went scoreless. In the opening minute of the second overtime stanza, a penalty kick was awarded to Eckerd. Astiazaran converted the PK for the game-winner.
