Volleyball Notes
  • After debuting in the NCAA South Region Rankings at No. 7 this week, the Lions take their show on the road to face Embry-Riddle, who was ranked No. 6, and Florida Tech.
  • Saint Leo and Embry-Riddle split the season series a year ago with each team winning on their respective home courts. The win by the Eagles last season was their first over the Lions since they began playing a Sunshine State Conference schedule in 2015. ERAU took the earlier meeting this season in Saint Leo 3-1.
  • Saint Leo has won 12-straight matches against the Panthers of Florida Tech. The last loss by the Lions in the series came back on Oct. 5, 2012 in Melbourne, a 3-2 setback, which snapped another double-digit Lions win streak in the series. The Lions downed the Panthers 3-0 earlier this season in Saint Leo.
  • Five Saint Leo attackers reached double-figures against the Eagles in the first meeting this season led by junior Nina Vattovaz and sophomore Ashley Quero who each had 15 kills in the loss. Freshman setter Cassandra Kamien dished out 57 assists in just four sets to run the Saint Leo offense.
  • Quero led the Lions in the sweep of FIT with 12 kills while Vattovaz (9), senior Dallas Jasper (8) and junior Annabella Arcari (8) all came within striking distance of double-digits.
  • Embry-Riddle has won five of their last six matches entering this Sunshine State Conference weekend including winning all three of its matches at the NCAA South Region Crossover. In the Eagles win over Saint Leo, ERAU was led by Sam Lanning who had 15 kills and eight blocks. Erika Barbour (14), Melanie Canfield (12) and McKenna James (11) all joined Lanning in double-figures.
  • Florida Tech has won three of its last four matches including going 2-1 at the NCAA South Region Crossover. The Panthers did not have an attacker earn more than six kills in the match against the Lions in Saint Leo as Kiersten Rosa led the way with six kills and nine digs. Kelly Germain leads the Panther offense on the season with 3.01 kills per set.
