LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team dropped its road match Tuesday night at rival Florida Southern 3-0. The Moccasins were riding a 25-match home winning streak entering the match while the Lions were seeking their first season sweep of Florida Southern since 2008. The Mocs came out strong and a late surge by the Lions was not enough to slow their momentum.

Juniors
Victoria Omoregie and
Annabella Arcari led the Lion attack with 10 kills each while freshman
Cassandra Kamien dished out the assists finishing with 32 over the three-set match. Kamien posted a double-double as well with 11 digs. Arcari also led the team in blocks with four.

Senior libero
Reggie Van Devender paced the team in digs with 16 while juniors
Fabiola Rosado and
Nina Vattovaz finished with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Lions (8-9, 5-4 SSC) held Sunshine State Conference leader in kills Nicole Mattson to just eight in the match but she was able to post a team-high 18 digs in the victory. Tierra Porter led the Mocs (11-6, 6-3 SSC) with 10 kills.

Florida Southern never trailed in the opening set as they coasted to a 25-19 victory. The second set featured six lead changes and 11 tie scores as Florida Southern pulled away late for a 25-22 win while the third set went much like the first but Saint Leo made a late surge before falling 25-22.

Both teams struggled offensively hitting below .200 as the Mocs turned in a .187 hitting percentage and Saint Leo finished at .095. Â Â

Saint Leo will continue its road swing Friday night as the Lions head to Winter Park to face Rollins at 7 p.m.
