VALDOSTA, Ga. – Three Saint Leo women's tennis players continued their march through the championship singles bracket following Friday's first day of competition at the ITA South Region Championship at Valdosta State University.
12th-seeded Marta Vincens Miguel defeated Palm Beach Atlantic's Taylor Conti, 6-3, 6-1, to make it into the Round of 32. She will be joined by
Madeleine Gauthier, who knocked off PBA's Laura Anderson, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (8) in the Round of 64.
Kristyna Jurkova also made it out of the Round of 64 with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Florida Southern's Natalia Popovic.
The Lions' fourth singles entry, 13th-seeded
Maja Pindelska, dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Montevallo's Kalaga Bhargavi, and was relegated to the consolation bracket.
Other Saint Leo women's tennis results from the ITA South Region Championships:
- In doubles play, the tandem of Gauthier and Jurkova advanced into the Round of 16 with a victory over Delta State's Charlotte Le Flohic and Shelby Zachry, 8-0.
- The duo of Pindelska and Vincens Miguel were knocked out of the championship bracket with an 8-2 loss to Lynn's Jan Abaza and Diana Bogolii.
Competition in the ITA South Region Championship continues on Saturday, Sept. 23.
