ORANGE, Calif. – Saint Leo men's basketball picked up their first win of the season with a 66-65 game over Humboldt State at the Disney DII Tip-Off Classic hosted at Santiago Canyon College.
Saint Leo (1-1) saw
Tyreece Brice and
Isaiah Hill lead the team in points, as
Junior Searcy paced the team in rebounds with seven. Searcy added nine points on the day.
Humboldt State would control the glass outrebounding the Lions 46-33 where the Lions forced 25 turnovers by the Jacks. Saint Leo picked up 13 steals led by
Isaiah Hill with five.

How It Happened…
1H | The first half saw one lead change and no ties as the Lions jumped out to an early seven point lead, 9-2 at the 16:54 mark. Humboldt State came back and took the lead at 10-9 with 14:47 to play and held the lead for the remainder of the opening half. The Jacks would get out to a 10 point margin with 4:07 to play before the Lions closed to within two on a dunk by
Jake Montgomery at 1:03. Two missed shots, one by each team, would end the first half in favor of Humboldt State 28-26.

2H | Tyreece Brice would hit the first bucket out of the break for either team, pushing the Lions ahead 29-28 with a three-pointer. A second half that featured four ties and seven lead changes saw the two teams play tight over the first four minutes before Humboldt State could rebuild their lead to six, on a three-pointer from Tyras Rattler Jr.
Junior Searcy would answer with a three of his own to cut it back to three points, 37-34 with 15:53 to play. Three minutes later,
Daniel Duarte and
Jesse Huff would team up for four total points on a Duarte free throw and a Huff three to tie the game at 38-38. Humboldt State would hold the one point lead with under 10 minutes to play, 45-44, before newcomer
Pape Ngom made a layup to push the Green and Gold ahead, 46-45. Both teams would exchange the lead until Searcy tied it at 48 with two free throws. Saint Leo would play from infront over the next six minutes before two free throws put Humboldt State ahead, 58-57 at the 2:33 mark. After free throws tied it at 60-60 with 2:20 to play, Searcy would make a layup, putting the Lions up as the Green and Gold would hold on for the win.
