Men's Basketball closes out trip to California with an 83-69 setback to Concordia-Irvine

ORANGE, Calif. – Saint Leo men's basketball closed out the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic with an 83-69 loss to Concordia-Irvine at Santiago Canyon College.
 
Saint Leo (1-2) saw DeAndre King lead the team in scoring with 16 total points with five three-pointers and one free throw. Tyreece Brice and Isaiah Hill added double-digit performance for the Green and Gold where Brice added 14 and Hill 12.

How It Happened…
1H |  Concordia jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before DeAndre King hit a three pointer, cutting the Eagles lead in half at the 16:27 mark. King would sink another three to tie the game a minute later off a pass from Jake Montgomery. The Eagles would get a three pointer from JT Roach to take a 21-16 lead at the media timeout with 8:32 to play. Earl Russell and Tyreece Brice would help the Lions cut the deficit to 24-23 with a Russell free throw and a Brice layup, with 5:48 remaining. The Eagles would build their lead back out to eight points with 54-seconds to play, 38-30, before Tyreece Brice would find DeAndre King for a three with 42-ticks left, and then Junior Searcy for a jumper to cut the Eagles lead to five, 40-35 at the break. | Concordia 40-35 |

2H | Back-to-back King three's opened the second half and saw the Lions take a 41-40 lead at the 18:36 mark. Both the Eagles and Lions would play tight before Concordia was able to gain momentum and push their lead to six points, 54-48, before Searcy, Daniel Duarte and Kyran McClure helped the Lions tie things at 54-54. Searcy's layup followed by Duarte's free throw allowed for McClure's three to tie things with 12:15 on the clock. Over the next six minutes, Concordia would extend their lead to an 11-points, 69-58, before the Lions called a timeout. Out of the timeout, Isaiah Hill drilled a three to cut it back to eight, 69-61, but a late surge allowed for the Eagles to run off with a 14-point victory. | Concordia 83-69 |

Saint Leo returns to the hardwood on Nov. 11 when it heads to Tampa, Fla. to take on Alabama-Huntsville at 12 p.m. to open up play at the GSC/SSC Challenge. The Lions will take on North Alabama at 12 p.m. on Nov. 12 to close out the GSC/SSC Challenge.
