Men’s soccer falls to #4 Lynn, 1-0, on late score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University's Alun Webb scored the game's lone goal in the 75th minute, leading the No.4-ranked Fighting Knights past Saint Leo men's soccer, 1-0, in a Sunshine State Conference matchup on Saturday night at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

Webb volleyed home the game-winning goal from approximately six yards out, finishing a play that began with a cross from Martin Drobits.

Saint Leo was outshot in the game, 11-4, with three of the Lions' shots coming in the second half and two of those in the game's waning minutes as Saint Leo fought for a game-tying goal. Lynn held a 7-3 advantage is corner kick opportunities, and was whistled for 14 fouls to Saint Leo's 18.

75' | Martin Drobits brings the ball down the left flank and crosses into the middle of the box, where Alun Webb volleys home the shot from six yards out.

·         Conor McElhinney recorded one save over his 90 minutes in goal for Saint Leo. With the loss, his record falls to 2-3-1 overall.

·         Saint Leo did not record a single shot on goal.

For the Opponent – Lynn

·         Lynn improved to 8-1-0 overall, 4-1-0 SSC, with the win over Saint Leo, after dropping a 1-0 loss to No. 8 Palm Beach Atlantic earlier in the week.

·         Alun Webb's goal was his sixth of the season and 13th of his career.

Up Next

Saint Leo men's soccer has a quick turnaround before its next game on Tuesday, Oct. 10, when it travels to Melbourne, Fla., to face SSC rival Florida Tech. The Lions and the Panthers were originally slated to play on September 29, but the game was rained out.

After the make-up game against Florida Tech, Saint Leo will be at home for three of its final four games.
