Men's soccer plays to a 2-2 draw with Eckerd Wednesday

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with the visiting Eckerd College Tritons on Wednesday night at University Soccer Field behind four combined second half goals.
 
Hermon Constant put the Lions up in the 73rd minute off a ball from Till Lammertz and scored once again in the 87th minute. Saint Leo was unable to hold onto a 2-1 lead allowing the game tying goal in the 90th minute. 

Neither team could get another goal in either of the two overtime periods, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

How It Happened
73'| Till Lammertz danced along the right side and slipped the defender feeding a driven ball across the face of the goal. Hermon Constant was on the opposite side and hit a low hard shot past the Triton keeper for the first goal of the game. | Saint Leo 1-0 |
81'| After a harsh tackle in the Lions' defensive box, two yellow cards later, Westleigh Rush buried a penalty kick to tie things up at 1-1. | Tied 1-1 |
87'| Yuga Yanagisawa picked up a ball deep in the Lions box and played a ball over the defense where Hermon Constant blew past the last defender and cut around the sliding keeper to bury the ball in the back of the net. | Saint Leo 2-1 |
90'| With time winding down, Robert Carter, who just checked in for the Tritons minutes before, found a ball outside the 18 and blasted it into the lower left corner to tie things up once again. | Tied 2-2 |
 
OT 1 | Eckerd ripped off eight shots in the first overtime period where Saint Leo tallied one. McElhinney picked up one save in the first overtime to keep things tied 2-2.
OT 2 | Both teams notched one shot in the final overtime period where the Tritons earned one corner.
 
Points to Note
  • With the tie, Saint Leo moves to 1-0-1 in two-overtime games.
  • The tie marks the first time since the 2014 season the Lions have tied; the last tie was in the NCAA South Regional Championship to #13 Christian Brothers, 2-2, where the Green and Gold advanced in PK's.
  • Keeper Conor McElhinney tallied seven saves on 24 Triton shots with nine on frame.
  • The Lions ripped off 15 shots with four on frame lead by Hermon Constant's six shots, with the two on frame going in.
  • Constant's two goals are the first and second goals of his career on the pitch for the Lions.  
For the Opponent – Eckerd
  • Eckerd moves to 3-4-1, 1-3-1 SSC after the 2-2 draw.
  • The Tritons ripped off 24 shots and earned 12 corners.
  • Juan Tejada led the team with five shots.
  • Westleigh Rush and Robert Carter were credited with the two goals.
  • Keeper Alex Gott played the full 110:00 minutes between the posts where he picked up two saves on 15 Saint Leo shots and four on frame.
UP NEXT
Saint Leo will head to Boca Raton on Oct. 7 to take on Lynn at 6 p.m. Following the game with the Fighting Knights, Saint Leo will head to Melbourne on Oct. 10 to tango with the Panthers in a rescheduled game before returning home on Oct. 14 to host Nova Southeastern.
