SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo volleyball reentered the American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 Coaches' Poll at No. 24, after going 3-0 on the week including a 3-2 win over then-no. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Lions posted a 3-0 week with a 3-1 win over Tampa on Oct. 24 before traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic and upsetting the undefeated, third ranked team in the country 3-2 on Oct. 27. Saint Leo finished off the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Rollins.
With their exceptional play, Saint Leo volleyball was awarded the Offensive, Defensive, and Setter of the Week from the Sunshine State Conference.
Anna Garrett picked up her third SSC Setter of the Week after posting 125 assists on the week. Garrett averaged 10.42 assists per set on a .386 percentage. The sophomore from Merritt Island, Fla. added 15 kills, one service ace, 26 total digs and eight total blocks on the week.
Garrett notched her seventh and eighth double-double on the week with 40 assists and 15 digs against Tampa while she recorded 59-11 in the Lions' win over No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic.
Jenya Kruglova picks up her second Defensive Player of the Week honor after her performance against the Spartans, Sailfish and Tars. Kruglova scooped up 49 digs on the week, including 31 against Palm Beach Atlantic, as the Green and Gold held opponents to a .105 combined hitting percentage. Kruglova picked up 13 digs against Tampa and helped the Lions hold the Spartans to a .058 hitting percentage.
Kruglova and the Lions held the Sailfish to a .165 hitting percentage before closing the weekend with a deflated Tars team that hit just .044 against the Green and Gold.
Victoria Omoregie earns her first Offensive Player of the Week honor after slamming down 32 kills on 78 attempts with just eight errors for a .308 hitting percentage. Omoregie averaged 2.67 kills per set as she recorded two matches in double-digits with 11 against Tampa and 12 over Palm Beach Atlantic. The right side tallied seven digs on the week while recorded six total blocks.
The Lions returned to the AVCA top 25 poll after a week outside of the top 25. This is the 24th time all-time the Green and Gold have been ranked in the weekly top 25 polls. Saint Leo was ranked for three weeks in 2008, nine weeks in 2009 and four weeks in 2010 while they add five in 2016 already.
In the AVCA poll, the Lions were joined by Palm Beach Atlantic (21-1) at no. 6. The Sailfish were the fourth ranked team in the nation for seven weeks prior to moving up to third last week. PBA's streak of fourth or higher broke when the Sailfish fell to the Lions.
The Lions return to the court on Nov. 3 when they host Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
