Ryan Burke was added to the Saint Leo men’s lacrosse staff as an assistant coach in the 2016-17 academic year.
During his third season alongside head coach Brad Jorgensen, Burke helped the Lions to its second-straight Sunshine State Conference Tournament appearance. The 2019 Saint Leo Lions (10-7, 4-3 SSC) finished the season as the SSC Tournament Runners-Up.
In 2018, Saint Leo compiled an outstanding 16-3 season, going 7-0 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Burke saw the Lions become the first team from the State of Florida, among all divisions, to appear in the NCAA National Championship final game. The Saint Leo Lions posted a ten-game win streak on their way to being SSC Regular Season Champions and hosting the SSC Tournament.
In the 2017 season, Burke helped the Saint Leo offense to a very efficient season. As a team, the Lions finished the year with the top shot percentage in the nation at 0.378, led by the nation’s individual leader in Kyle Pauwels, 0.690. The Lions also finished in the top ten in points per game (3rd, 22.64), assists per game (3rd, 8.07), scoring offense (4th, 14.57), and scoring margin (8th, 5.57).
Burke previously served as a volunteer assistant for the Lions from August 2014-May 2016.
The native of Virginia Beach, Va., was four-year midfielder on the Saint Leo lacrosse team spanning the 2011-14 season and earned a team captain honor in his senior year. He played in 50 career games for the Green & Gold and finished his career with 50 points; 30 goals and 20 assists. He also added 37 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls.
Burke brings coaching experience from the club level as well, having served as a travel team coach for both V3 Lacrosse out of Virginia Beach, and STS Tarpons out of Tampa, where he currently serves as a team head coach and business administration intern. He also serves as a trainer and coach for Level in Tampa.
He graduated from Saint Leo in 2014 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice and is currently working on his masters in sports business from Saint Leo.
