Kody Te Kanawa

Kody Te Kanawa joined the Saint Leo men’s lacrosse coaching staff in the 2017-18 academic year.

In 2019, Te Kanawa and the Lions earned their second-straight Sunshine State Conference Tournament appearance. Saint Leo (10-7, 4-3 SSC) finished the season as the SSC Tournament Runners-Up.

In 2018, Saint Leo compiled an outstanding 16-3 season, going 7-0 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Te Kanawa saw the Lions become the first team from the State of Florida, among all divisions, to appear in the NCAA National Championship final game. The Saint Leo Lions posted a ten-game win streak on their way to being SSC Regular Season Champions and hosting the SSC Tournament.

A native of Coquitlam British Columbia, Canada, Te Kanawa helped Blue Ridge high school to two all-conference and two all-state titles as team captain.

The defenseman continued his career playing for the Coquitlam Adanacs in British Colombia, Canada from 2011-2013. There he earned three BCLA Junior A Provincial Championships and Minto Cup Finalist finish.

Te Kanawa extended his lacrosse career at Dowling College where he and the Golden Lions became the 2012 NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Champions and 2014 ECC Champions. He graduated in May of 2016 with a degree in Social Sciences with a minor in Secondary Education.

Te Kanawa began his professional career working as a defensive clinch coach, assistant travel coach, camp instructor and box lacrosse coach for multiple programs along with taking on the responsibility of head junior varsity coach at Mattituck high school. He spent a year at Tusculum College as an assistant coach before relocating to Tampa, Florida.
