FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Leo volleyball team lost a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) match on the road versus Nova Southeastern on Friday night by a score of 3-0.
Despite trailing 8-11 in the opening set, the Lions were able to tie the Sharks 13-13 following a service error by Nova Southeastern. However, the Sharks claimed the momentum by grasping a 20-17 advantage after a kill before consecutive attacking errors gave Nova Southeastern a 25-22 win in the first set.
In the second set, the Lions jumped out to an 11-6 lead following an attack error by the Sharks. The Green & Gold maintained control of the set as it kept a five-point edge at 17-12 after junior
Gina Stavile notched a kill. However, the Sharks trimmed its deficit to 17-16 before tying the set at 20-20. Nova Southeastern scored three of the next four points as it led by a 23-21 margin and eventually won the set 25-22.
The final set featured once again back as a kill from freshman
Reagan Lyerla trimmed the Saint Leo deficit to 22-21. The Sharks rattled off three consecutive points and won the final set 25-21 for the sweep.
Stavile led the Lions with 13 kills while she hit at a .242 clip and recorded three digs. Junior
Emma LeTourneau tallied eight kills while boasting a staggering .462 hitting percentage. Freshman
Jansen Warbritton sported a double-double as she dished out 29 assists registered 10 digs. Junior
Mia Moser recorded 17 digs with five assists while graduate student
Giada Solorzano posted 10 digs as well.
The Lions return to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 26 as they travel to face 12th-ranked Lynn in a conference, starting at 4 p.m.
