SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo University women's soccer fell short their season opening contest to Delta State University 3-2.
Sophomore Nola Johnson put the Lions in front in the 30th minute, finishing off a strong first half to give Saint Leo a 1-0 lead at the break. Goalkeeper Addison Pitts kept the Lions in front with two first-half saves, while Saint Leo created several opportunities of its own.
Delta State rallied with two goals early in the second half, but Saint Leo quickly answered as sophomore Kennedy Hartzell converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute to even the match at 2-2. The Lions continued to battle and kept the game level until Delta State found the winning goal in the 84th minute. Pitts finished with four saves,
This match also marked the beginning of the Alex Greco era of women's soccer at Saint Leo. The women's soccer team is back in action this Sat. at home vs Middle Georgia State at 12 P.M.
