MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Saint Leo men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road at Auburn Montgomery on Thursday night in a non-conference bout at the AUM Soccer Complex in the 2026 season opener.
The Lions battled throughout the 90-minute contest, putting five of their 13 total shots on frame while earning eight corner kicks. The Warhawks finished with nine shots and four shots on goal.
Saint Leo junior goalkeeper
Vincent Fournier made two saves in his 90 minutes of action, keeping the Lions within one goal for much of the contest.
After a scoreless opening 37 minutes, AUM broke through with a goal at the 37:51 mark, giving the Warhawks a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Lions continued to apply pressure in the second half. Junior
Luis Gaitan recorded multiple shots, including an effort that was saved by AUM, junior while
Denis O. John also forced a save in the 61st minute.
Saint Leo generated several more opportunities late, with junior
Alejo Tangredi forcing a save in the 75th minute and the Lions earning consecutive corner kicks in the 78th minute. Tangredi and junior
Pietro Botasso also registered shots during the late push.
Gaitan led the Lions with three shots, including two on target, while
Christian Getsos,
Alejo Tangredi and
Virgilio Escala each recorded two shots.
The Lions will return to the pitch this Sunday, August 30 as they travel to face 10th-ranked Mississippi Christian in a non-conference bout starting at 12 p.m.EST.
