ORLANDO, Fla. – Jose David Segovia was named the 2026 SSC Player of the Year, Sponsored by Athletic Solutions. The Sunshine State Conference announced its annual All-SSC postseason accolades on Wednesday afternoon with Segovia and
Kodai Kato representing the Lions. Segovia earned the Player of the Year Honors, as well as a first team selection for both singles and doubles. Having spent the majority of the season at the top of the doubles rankings the #2 doubles pair in the nation of Segovia and Kato earned their rightful spot on the All-SSC first team for doubles. Saint Leo's season continues next week in Miami Shores at the 2026 NCAA DII South Regional championship.
All-SSC History: SSC Players and Coaches of the Year | All-SSC Teams
Jose David Segovia delivered a dominant spring in singles, earning Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year honors while also securing a spot on the All-SSC First Team. Competing at the top of the lineup, Segovia put together an outstanding run, winning the vast majority of his matches and stringing together a lengthy undefeated streak through the heart of the season. His résumé featured multiple victories over nationally and regionally ranked opponents, including key wins against players from West Florida, Wayne State, and Flagler. With consistent straight-set performances and the ability to control matches from start to finish, Segovia established himself as one of the premier singles players in the country and a driving force behind Saint Leo's success this spring.
Kodai Kato and Jose David Segovia also put together an elite doubles campaign, spending the majority of the season ranked No. 2 nationally while anchoring the Lions' top doubles position. The pair opened the spring with four straight wins and continued to deliver against top-tier competition, earning key victories over ranked duos from programs like Wayne State, Flagler, and Rollins.
Competing almost exclusively at No. 1 doubles, Kato and Segovia were a steady force in Sunshine State Conference play, consistently helping Saint Leo secure the doubles point. Even in matchups against elite teams such as Barry and Embry-Riddle, the duo remained highly competitive. Their season was defined by national ranking consistency, multiple ranked wins, and top-flight reliability, solidifying their place among the best doubles pairs in Division II.
All-conference selections and individual award winners are determined by a vote of Sunshine State Conference head coaches with oversight and approval from member institution Athletic Directors.
