Baseball Takes Down Lynn in Doubleheader Sweep

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo baseball team claimed its series versus Lynn on the road following a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action. The Lions won game one 2-1 before winning 8-4 in game two.

In game two, both offenses were limited. Saint Leo took a 1-0 lead in the third as senior Roberto Odor scored on a wild pitch, however, in the bottom half of the third, the Fighting Knights tied the game with an RBI-single to right field. In the fifth, senior Amai Rivera-Martinez scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

On the mound, junior Howard Flynn started and pitched 7.0 innings while recording three strikeouts. Despite allowing 10 hits, he only surrendered one run (earned) and issued just one walk as he collected the win. In relief, junior Jackson Wohlers pitched 2.0 innings and held Lynn hitless in addition to tallying a strikeout to notch the save.

During game two, the Lions trailed 2-0 until they rattled off five runs in the fourth that featured back-to-back RBI-singles from Odor and Riveria-Martinez followed by a sacrifice-fly from freshman Noah Delgado and a two-run single from junior Eli Vickers. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Fighting Knights tallied a pair of runs to trim their deficit to 5-4, however, the Lions responded with insurance runs in the seventh and ninth to lead 8-4 and secure the victory.

On the mound, freshman Parker Hohnstock pitched 5.0 innings while collected six strikeouts. He allowed four runs (all earned) on four hits. He earned the win and improved to 6-3 on the year. In relief, senior Harrison Miller had 3.0 innings of work and posted two strikeouts while fellow senior Kyle Anderson pitched 1.0 innings and struck out two batters to earn the save.

The Green & Gold return to action on Friday, May 8 as it hosts Eckerd in the SSC series-opener at 6 p.m.
