ORLANDO, Fla.- Junior pitcher
Alex Wright was named the final Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week for 2026 as announced by the league office on Monday, May 11. Wright improved to 11-0 with a win in the regular season finale at Eckerd over the weekend as top-ranked Saint Leo softball set a program record with 44 wins in a season. Wright joins a small list from the #1 ranked softball team in NCAA Division II to earn SSC weekly honors for softball. She is the fourth Lion and third pitcher to earn the honors in 2026.
Alex Wright delivered another dominant outing in the regular season finale, tossing a complete game as the junior improved to 11-0 on the season. Wright allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out five and walking none across six innings of work. Backed by a powerful Saint Leo offense, the Florida native helped lead the top-ranked Lions to a 12-1 run-rule victory over Eckerd and the program's first-ever 44-win regular season. Wright finished the regular season with five complete games and continued to anchor one of the nation's top pitching staffs heading into postseason play.
Saint Leo's focus has turned to the NCAA postseason as it earned the top-seed in the NCAA Division II South Region championship and will host the top half of the regional bracket this weekend. The regional is set for May 14-16 at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium.
